EMI's Number 1 Singles

The first singles chart was printed on 14 November 1952 by the weekly music paper New Musical Express. This information is drawn from that chart until 10 March 1960, when the data comes from the weekly music trade magazine Music Week, previously titled Record Retailer. Our thanks to The Guinness Book of Hit Singles as our reference. Where indicated with an asterisk* the artist and song, while having been released through one of EMI's labels, was not signed to the company but licensed to it at the time of its success. Virgin is not included.

This page contains links to sound recordings of some of the singles in .AIF audio format. This format is supported by both the Netscape 3.0 and Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 Web browsers.
